Bucharest, Romania
Founded in 2020, Tangent Association is dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches in the arts, with a particular focus on emerging voices across theatre, dance, music, and visual expression. Committed to accessibility and social inclusion, Tangent designs its projects to reach both young audiences and individuals from underprivileged backgrounds, nurturing creativity as a tool for dialogue, healing, and transformation.

Among its pro-bono initiatives are two editions of the POT junior art camp (2020, 2021), held on the site of a former agricultural cooperative in Olt County. These camps offered theatre, dance, music, painting, storytelling, and ecology workshops for 35 institutionalised children and teenagers from family-type homes in Corabia. In 2021, the association launched SIT. site-specific art camp, a cultural intervention in Călimănești featuring devised theatre and site-specific workshops for 15 acting students, culminating in a street performance attended by over 200 locals and tourists. The same year, Grădina Necuvintelor brought together UNATC acting students in an artistic dialogue through theatre and contemporary dance, resulting in a short film broadcast through the Romanian Cultural Institute network.

With the support of the Romanian Cultural Fund (AFCN), Tangent has carried out ambitious projects such as POT și iarna! (2022), a wide-ranging arts education programme involving 48 workshops for 120 institutionalised children across five cities, alongside a social inclusion conference and the publication of the POT art therapy journal. In 2024, Tangent co-produced EMAUS with Excelsior Theatre —an adaptation of Alessandro Baricco’s novel—following a nationwide casting call and intensive workshop for young performers. The production, awarded for Best Choreography at the IMAGINARIUM Festival and nominated for two UNITER Awards, continues to resonate as an example of Tangent’s dedication to excellence, experimentation, and inclusive practice.
