Brooklyn Academy of Music – From Legacy to Future: Navigating Artistic Programming Through Institutional Transformation

For the very first time, Brooklyn Academy of Music’s legendary long-serving leader Joseph V. Melillo (Artistic Director, 1983–2018) and current Artistic Director Amy Cassello engage in a public dialogue about the evolution, challenges, and future of one of America’s most innovative cultural institutions. The session explores how BAM sustains its commitment to adventurous programming while adapting to shifting realities. Melillo reflects on BAM’s golden era of groundbreaking international presentations, while Cassello shares her vision for preserving its artistic edge during a time of strategic downsizing and institutional renewal.
