MEETINGS AND CLASSES WITH GREAT CHOREOGRAPHERS: Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, Israel

Two special sessions focused on contemporary dance and performative exploration bring to Sibiu three remarkable artists from diverse international backgrounds. Collet Reude and Grace Ward, dancers with Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, offer an introduction to the physical language developed within one of Israel’s leading dance companies. Ștefan Lupu—actor, choreographer, and lecturer at UNATC Bucharest—examines the relationship between movement, physical theatre, and directorial practice. These meetings create an inspiring space for exchange and learning for all those engaged with new directions in contemporary dance.

Grace Ward was born in Chicago in 2001 and is an international performing artist. She received her early training under the guidance of Elise Flagg, Ricky Ruiz, and Sherry Moray. Grace pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Modern Dance at the University of Utah, where she further developed her technique and artistic voice, collaborating with notable artists such as Laja Martin, Darrell Moultrie, Jennifer Archibald, and Natalie Desch. She joined the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in September 2022, following her participation in the company’s International Dance Journey study abroad program.

Colette Reude was born in Chicago in 2000. She trained in ballet and Cuban modern dance at the Ruth Page School of Dance from 2004 to 2019. Between 2016 and 2019, she took part in exchange programs at the Escuela Nacional de Ballet de Cuba, Incolballet in Colombia, Conservatorio Profesional de Danza A Coruña in Spain, and Ironi Aleph in Tel Aviv. In 2019, Colette participated in KCDC’s International Dance Journey study abroad program at the company’s home in the International Dance Village, Kibbutz Ga’aton, for five months. She returned for another five months in 2022 and officially joined the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in February 2023.
